According to a new report from RentCafe, Madison ranks fourth in the nation of the best places for minimalist lifestyles.
The study of the 150 largest U.S. cities from RentCafe’s self-storage division highlighted the following aspects that helped Madison achieve its high ranking:
- The city makes it easy to reduce the consumption of resources and engage in sustainable practices on multiple fronts. It offers a great alternative to car dependence through its strong biking infrastructure and walkability. With 3% of residents riding their bikes to work, Madison bested all other cities in the biking-to-work department. The local commute time of 18 minutes is the fifth shortest among the country’s major cities. Additionally, 8% of citizens walk to their jobs.
- With 53% of the local housing inventory counting a maximum of two bedrooms, there are plenty of smaller homes minimalists can choose from, which also means residents tend to have less room for unnecessary items.
- Madison also provides residents with 887 square feet of park space per capita, which serves as a free alternative to those who find joy in simple, healthy recreational activities.
