Property taxes are going up after two Madison school referendums passed in 2024, the Wisconsin State Journal reports.

The rise is more than 11%. For example, taxes on a house valued at $481,300, is rising about $871 to $8,614. This is after state lottery credit and other credit deductions.

After the referendums passed — a $100 million operational referendum that permanently increased the district’s revenue limits and a $507 million facilities referendum to build eight schools and renovate two more — school taxes increased about $780.

The effect on taxes will last until 2048.
