Madison Police Chief Shon Barnes will be inducted into the Evidence-Based Policing Hall of Fame this summer, according to the city. The honor is awarded to members of law enforcement central to the implementation of a high-quality research program in their agency. It also recognizes these individuals for advancing significant reforms in policing by utilizing science in their decision making.
The Hall of Fame is through the Center for Evidence-Based Crime Policy in the Department of Criminology, Law and Society at George Mason University.
Eight people nationwide are a part of this year’s class.
Chief Barnes joined the Madison Police Department in February 2021. Throughout this career, he has focused on community outreach and neighborhood policing.
He has been previously recognized as a National Institute of Justice LEADs Scholar for using innovative technology to reduce crime. He is also a member of the National Police Foundation’s Council on Policing Reforms and Race.
