The Madison Night Market is gearing up to make its way to the Capitol Square in May 2024, marking a significant expansion from its usual State Street location, according to a Wisconsin State Journal report.
Initiated from a recommendation of a 2016 downtown retail study, the market first opened its doors in 2017 on Gilman Street. Since then, it’s grown to encompass the entire State Street area. This season, it’s stretching even further, bringing North Carroll and West Mifflin streets into the fold, right on the western fringe of the Capitol Square.
The market will be held from 5 to 9 p.m. on the following Thursdays: May 9, June 13, Aug. 8, Sept. 12, and Oct. 17. While the market has traditionally offered around 80 spots for vendors, this expansion will allow for 20 more, helping to accommodate the ever-growing interest from vendors, which typically surpasses 300 applications. A detailed list of all vendors, performers, and food offerings will be shared in April.
With the move to Capitol Square, the organizers are expecting a big turnout, especially for the opening night on May 9. Last year alone, the event attracted nearly 70,000 visitors to State Street.
