Yet another Madison strip mall could bite the dust in favor of redevelopment if the city of Madison moves forward with plans to purchase a partially vacant property in the 1900 block of South Park Street. According to a report in the Wisconsin State Journal, the city could spend $1.44 million to buy the two-story strip mall that once housed Madison Bazaar grocery and liquors but still is home to four businesses — Don Carlos Carnitas, Boostmobile, Salon Unisex, and PL$ Check Cashers.

The existing businesses would be allowed to remain under their current leases and new business would still be welcome in the short term, but long-term plans call for a mixed-use retail and residential development.
