The Madison Metro Transit is planning to upgrade its bus fleet with money from a federal grant

It plans to purchase 16 new hybrid buses for its fleet in 2026 after receiving a $17.4 million grant from the Federal Transit Administration’s Low or No Emission Grant Program.

The buses will replace its existing diesel Metro buses.

The new buses will be 40% more energy efficient than the diesel buses, Metro officials said. The new buses will be used on local, fixed routes, not on Bus Rapid Transit routes, the Cap Times reported.
