Warning about the possibility of future deficits, Madison Mayor Satya Rhodes-Conway has proposed a record $381.9 million operating budget for 2023, according to a report on Madison.com.

The mayor’s proposal would allocate $2 million in federal funds for homeless shelter operations and $2 million from the general fund for seed money to support a private-public shelter operations endowment for the future. It also provides more services in Dane County’s reproductive health clinic, a response to the U.S. Supreme Court’s decision to overturn Roe v. Wade, and in light of growing mental health needs, it would expand the Community Alternative Response Emergency Services, which responds to 911 calls for behavioral health emergencies.

The budget plan also provides a 2% raise for employees, an additional 1% hike for general municipal employees, and a one-time $1,000 payment to all city employees.
