Madison man arrested for grocery store theft, resisting arrest

A Madison man was taken into custody on Monday evening following a theft at an east side supermarket, according to Madison Police.

While on patrol for a traffic safety initiative on the 800 block of East Washington Avenue, Madison police officers were alerted to a theft incident at Festival Foods. They observed the suspect attempting to flee the scene, police spokesperson Stephanie Fryer reported.

The suspect darted into the road, moving toward oncoming vehicles, yet remained unharmed. During the incident, one officer sustained minor injuries. The individual apprehended is now facing charges including retail theft, resisting arrest that resulted in injury, and violating probation.
