A program to allow expanded outdoor seating by Madison restaurants is no longer temporary, according to a Wisconsin State Journalreport. The Madison City Council voted unanimously to make the COVID-19 pandemic program permanent. Two new ordinances and two amendments keep in place many aspects of the “Streatery” program the council approved on a temporary emergency basis in 2020. The program allows restaurants and bars to extend into private property and rights of way including sidewalks, streets, terraces, and alleyways. Noise, hours of operation, storage, and enforcement are conditional to Streatery permit approvals.
