On Thursday, Madison-based nonprofit health insurer Group Health Cooperative of South Central Wisconsin (GHC) alerted its members of a “potential cyber security event” the night before, according to the Wisconsin State Journal. The incident forced the organization to shut down some of its online and information technology services.

The organization released a message stating that “the issue was quickly identified” but out of an “abundance of caution [it] secured all [its] IT systems that have internet access.”

GHC said some services and systems would be affected during the investigation of the issue, including its phone system and patients’ medical record access through MyChart. The organization has said it will keep members updated and that information can be found on its social media pages.
