Growlers to Go-Go on Madison’s east side is closing on Feb. 26 after six years, a victim of the rise in popularity of the craft beers it specializes in, according to a report from the Wisconsin State Journal.
The bar is run by owners of Trixie’s Liquor, 2929 E. Washington Ave., who opened the store in 2016 as a spot for beer lovers to take home specialty craft beers not sold in bottles or cans.
Growlers to Go-Go has 18 tap lines for beer to-go. Customers can select from 32- or 64-ounce glass growlers or a 32-ounce crowler can.
Co-owner Chris Welch said when he first opened, the concept was to have craft beer that was otherwise only available in kegs, “which kind of made it special.”
Now, he said, “there’s just so much craft beer. Nothing is really rare or special anymore. Every bar now is a craft beer bar … I don’t want to say (it’s) not needed, but now people can get so much craft beer, so much great beer, so much special beer, at every other location. It just really hurt us in the end.”
