According to The Capital Times, Madison’s St. Vincent De Paul food pantry has reached record-high levels of use as individuals and families struggle financially in the post-pandemic economy. The pantry served 2,858 households in June, eclipsing the previous record of 2,854 set in March.

Located at 2033 Fish Hatchery Road, the pantry supplies bread, meat, dairy, and personal items. Households may visit the pantry once every two weeks. In-store and outdoor, drive-through services are available, as is online service.

Other Madison pantries have seen similar increases. The River Food Pantry at 2201 Darwin Dr. has served around 4,985 households since January, a 33% increase from the same period last year, and 11,999 individuals, a 25% increase from last year.

The Fritz Food pantry at the Goodman Community Center at 214 Waubesa St. is averaging about 354 households per week, which is double the number from a year ago.
