A report from Minnesota-based Maxfield Research and Consulting for the Greater Madison Housing Consortium said Madison has enough beds built or planned near campus, the Wisconsin State Journal reported.
The group, which includes the Apartment Association of South Central Wisconsin and Smart Growth Greater Madison, among others who were not identified, inventoried rental housing within a mile of Bascom Hall.
The report said the university does not need to build any new dorms.
The University of Wisconsin-Madison said there were issues with the report like competition between graduate students and non-students for rental units.
The university also told the outlet that residence halls are at over 115% of designed capacity this year. The university last built a dorm in 2013.
