The Madison City Council and Dane County Board are considering the establishment of an age restriction for sales of hemp-derived THC, the Wisconsin State Journal reports.
Currently, people of any age can buy these products legally, but possible ordinance changes in the coming months would prohibit their sale to people under the age of 21 and require photo identification for purchases.
Retailers would also be required to post signs communicating the illegality of selling THC products to people under 21.
The proposed age restrictions would be the first step toward establishing oversight of the unregulated hemp-derived THC industry, according to sponsors, including lead sponsor and City Council President Regina Vidaver.
The ordinance will be introduced at Tuesday’s council meeting and is set to return for a vote Nov. 25.
