After evaluating the former Oscar Mayer site and considering contamination clean-up costs to build a bus garage, the city of Madison is now looking to purchase the FedEx distribution center at 3901 Hanson Road near the airport, according to a report from the Wisconsin State Journal.

Madison Metro Transit has abandoned plans to buy part of the former Oscar Mayer plant because significant environmental contamination associated with the site would be too costly to remediate. The FedEx distribution center would serve as the site for a garage as the city implements a new Bus Rapid Transit system. A resolution introduced this week would authorize the city to buy the 38-acre site for $16.2 million from McAllen Properties Madison.
