Madison College sold land next to its Watertown campus to Habitat for Humanity of Waukesha and Jefferson Counties, the Wisconsin State Journal reports. The land is set to be developed into a dozen housing units.

Madison College, after identifying the land as a surplus and making a public request for potential building projects, finalized the sale of the two 0.4-acre vacant lots at the end of June.

The development, at 1220 W. Main St. and 1220 Wilbur St., across from Madison College-Watertown, will soon see the construction of six duplex-style homes that will house 12 families. The project marks Habitat’s first build in Watertown and second in Jefferson County.

The nonprofit reportedly purchased the land from Madison College for $116,000, which included $100,000 from the Greater Watertown Community Health Foundation.

The project is scheduled to break ground this fall and open for families next year.
