Madison City Council members rejected a proposal that would defund the Office of the Independent Monitor, an agency providing police oversight, the Cap Times reports.

If the defunding had gone through, the funding would have been funneled to the Madison Police Department, which equates to roughly $400,000.

The money would fund police body cams, but the proposal failed 17-3.
