Madison City Council Ald. Regina Vidaver is running for Dane County executive, the Wisconsin State Journal reports. The news follows current Dane County Executive Joe Parisi’s announcement of his impending retirement in May 2024.
Vidaver, representing the near west side on the City Council, has said she will focus on key issues including behavioral health care, affordable housing, and environmental protection policies. She has been a council member since 2021 and earlier this year was a finalist interviewed to lead the Department of Human Services.
Vidaver is the first to announce her candidacy. A primary will be held next summer if more than two candidates come forward and will be followed by a general election in November 2024.
