The city of Madison has gained support for a community food waste reduction initiative through community composting and commercial food waste and food recovery programming, according to a statement from the U.S. Department of Agriculture. The project will accelerate food waste reduction and meet Madison’s goal to reduce food waste by 50% by 2030 through a community composting initiative and a commercial food waste initiative with restaurants. The initiatives hope to take a multisector approach to accelerate economic benefits to community farmers and commercial business owners.
