The city of Madison’s Arts Commission announced its largest-ever call for existing works of art. Madison’s Public Art Program is establishing a list of pre-qualified visual and public art for upcoming municipal projects. This database will serve as a key resource for purchasing, loaning, licensing, and commissioning public artwork throughout the city.
Selected artwork will be considered for public art opportunities in various city divisions and departments. While submitting artwork does not guarantee a purchase, loan, license, or commission, the resulting list of pre-qualified artworks will expedite the arts acquisition process.
Artists working across all media are encouraged to apply with images of two- or three-dimensional, digital, or time-based works. Artists can submit up to 10 artworks each year.
Upcoming projects that may use work from this call include but are not limited to:
-
Licensed images for Madison Trash or Recycling Trucks that celebrate the local environment and Madison’s character and history;
-
Licensed images for wallpaper designs for the Division of Civil Rights, with preference given to artwork that reflects the history of the Civil Rights movement and activism;
-
Art that will be purchased or loaned for renovated public spaces in the City-County Building; and
-
Images for the Art on Utility Boxes program (artists must reside in the city of Madison).
