Madison-area students received second place in a Junior Investment Club Competition at the 100 Black Men of America Annual Conference in Atlanta last Thursday. The students earned $750 for the accomplishment.
In addition, because the Madison team placed in the top five, competition sponsor Wells Fargo awarded an additional $5,000 to the Madison Chapter of the 100 Black Men of America. Wells Fargo also presented every student in the competition with $200 each to invest in their individual financial futures.
In the weeks prior to the conference, the competing teams managed virtual investment portfolios. Using a computer simulation, they invested in virtual stocks, bonds, and mutual funds. They competed against teams throughout the country to gain the largest return from their portfolio.
