Madison adds 338 new homes in April

According to the City of Madison Housing Tracker, 338 new homes were completed and received certificates of occupancy in April.  

In the last decade, the average for homes completed in April sat around 255. Yet the 2026 figure is a big increase over the same time last year, when only 54 homes were completed in April. 

Last month, 632 new building permits were issued for new homes. The number is about double the April average of 321, which has persisted since 2021.  

Madison set the goal of building 15,000 new homes by 2030 in January 2025. A net of 3,311 new homes have been completed. About 800 of those homes are for those who qualify for affordable housing
