Downtown Madison restaurant Mad City Frites finally got its beer license Tuesday, after the Madison City Council voted 19-1 to override Mayor Paul Soglin’s veto.
The Belgian-style fries restaurant is owned by 23-year-old Taylor Beebe.
Soglin previously renewed his request for a moratorium on downtown liquor licenses, citing a desire to get more retail establishments along State Street. The mayor then vetoed the license that had been granted to Mad City Frites.
City council members were critical of Soglin’s veto two weeks ago and voted overwhelmingly to overturn the action this week without further discussion.
