The Safe Skies Clean Water coalition, a local group opposed to a squadron of F-35s in Madison, has sent a petition with more than 2,000 signatures to the Air Force requesting the fighter jets be stationed elsewhere, according to a report in the Wisconsin State Journal.
Air Force Secretary Barbara Barrett received the petition that stated the environmental and economic impacts of the plan are too great a risk. Barrett is expected to make a final determination sometime after March 29.
