No injuries were reported after a fire broke out Monday in downtown Madison’s Lazy Jane’s Café, according to NBC15.
Around 6 p.m., firefighters responded to the café on the 1300 block of Williamson Street after smoke in the building was reported by a manager. Lazy Jane’s confirmed in a social media post on Tuesday that a small electrical fire had broken out in the attic of the business, which was closed at the time of the incident.
Responders reported seeing smoke coming from the roof and a light haze on the first and second floors of the building. Crews noted a fire in the second floor ceiling and opened the ceiling to put out the flames. According to MFD, the fire was limited to a rafter with electrical wiring on both sides of it.
Lazy Jane’s closed temporarily as damage was evaluated and has said it will post an update when it plans to reopen. The bakery building two doors down at 1348 William St. will in the meantime be open for bakery items and hot to-go coffee from 7–10 a.m.
