If all goes as planned, Lane’s Bakery will be baking again on South Park Street, according to manager/baker Chuck Lane. The business closed last fall and the lot was sold for development, but Lane is hoping for a May 1 opening at 2202 S. Park St. in the Village on Park mall and doesn’t anticipate any issues with the new lease.
The local bakery has been serving up sweet treats in Madison since 1954. “It was emotional when we first closed,” Lane said, admitting he missed waking up with a purpose over the past couple of months. “You get up and it’s ‘what will I do today?’ I don’t enjoy that.” Lane, who is part of the bakery’s third generation, will be joined by his son C.J. when the new shop opens.
