Lands’ End is backtracking after a decision to feature feminist Gloria Steinem in its spring catalog sparked a huge backlash. In a story from the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, the Dodgeville-based clothing manufacturer was called out by LifeNews, a pro-life news agency, for featuring Steinem, which it described as a “pro-abortion feminist” to launch its yearlong “Legend Series.”

The series, according to Lands’ End CEO Federica Marchionni, was intended to celebrate “individuals who have made a difference in both their respective industries and the world at large.” Instead, the Facebook page was flooded with complaints from customers.

Lands’ End issued an apology and reportedly removed any references to Steinem on its website, but not before at least two private, religious schools said they would no longer purchase uniforms from the company.
