La Crosse Tribune: Minnesota approves its portion of CapX power line

The Minnesota Public Utilities Commission on Thursday unanimously approved the final route for the state’s portion of the CapX2020 powerline project.

Thursday’s decision ends about five years of discussion and debate about the project, which proponents say is necessary to provide for a predicted increased need for electricity in southeast Minnesota. Opponents have debated that need, have fought against certain route segments, and have argued that the line will destroy native habitats and create health concerns.
