Kohl’s sales increase 3.4% in July, drop for Q2

Kohl’s Corp. reported today that total sales increased 3.4% percent for the four-week month that ended July 28, 2012, and comparable store sales increased 1.7% over the four-week month that ended July 30, 2011.

For the second quarter, total sales decreased 1% and comparable store sales decreased 2.7% from the second quarter of 2011.

Kevin Mansell, Kohl’s chairman, president and chief executive officer, said the retailer improved inventory levels as it enters the Back-to-School season. In terms of business lines, the company’s footwear, home, and men’s lines reported single digit increases (comp), while the strongest sales regions in July were the Midwest, Mid-Atlantic, and Northeast.
