With a goal of increasing revenues from about $19 billion to $21 billion by 2017, Kohl’s Corp. is launching a plan to reinvigorate its stores and, hopefully, its consumers, according to a report in the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel. The retailer’s year-over-year, same-store sales have declined over the past six of seven quarters, so the national chain, based in Menomonee Falls, says it will begin offering more exciting merchandise emphasizing national brands, put excitement back into its stores, and use “big data” to better connect with its customers. Over the past three years, the company has invested more than $1 billion on technology, and now it wants to put that technology to work to make the shopping experience more personal, focusing on middle-income families.
