In what it called one of the most ambitious product rollouts by its engine division, the Kohler Co. has introduced a new line of cleaner diesel engines, but they will not be produced in the company’s engine production facility in Sheboygan County.
The low-emission engines, which will reach the market in 2012 and power industrial and agricultural machinery, will be built in the company’s Lombardini plant in Italy, where the new line was unveiled Tuesday.
The market for diesel engines is larger in Europe than in the United States. In addition, the engine is designed to meet new emission standards that are scheduled to go into effect in both Europe and the United States in two years.
