Punitive damages awarded by a jury to Verona-based Epic Systems have been further reduced in a federal appeals court, according to a report from the Wisconsin State Journal.

The award, once totaling $940 million, was reduced to $140 million on the grounds that it is “constitutionally excessive.” The damages were awarded when a 2016 jury in the U.S. District Court in Madison found that Tata Consultancy Services downloaded confidential information and trade secrets from Epic between 2012 and 2014.
