Apple hoped for a new trial in a patent infringement case it lost in 2015 to the Wisconsin Alumni Research Foundation, but U.S. District Judge William Conley has ruled in WARF’s favor, meaning the $234.3 million settlement will stand, according to a story in the Wisconsin State Journal.

Apple must also cover $842,000 of WARF’s legal expenses.

WARF brought the lawsuit in 2014 charging that Apple infringed on one of its patents while it was creating a processor for the iPhone 5S in 2012 and subsequent mobile devices.

Conley also ordered the two companies to work together on a separate but related lawsuit involving newer Apple processors that use the same UW-created technology, such as the Apple iPhone 6, 6S, and 7.
