The underused Westgate Mall site would get $100 million worth of new life as part of a redevelopment proposal from JT Klein Co., according to an article in the Wisconsin State Journal.

To accommodate the redevelopment, JT Klein, a Madison development company, has entered into an agreement with Hy-Vee to purchase the nine-acre site and demolish the 60-year-old mall. The proposal does not include the 80,000-square-foot grocery store, which is a nearby amenity the redevelopment plan could take advantage of.

Specific plans for the property, located at Tokay Boulevard and South Whitney Way, are expected to be shared at a neighborhood meeting later this month. In addition to the Hy-Vee store, the area includes the new Exact Sciences headquarters in University Research Park and also could be enhanced by a proposed housing, hotel, and commercial development at Whitney Way and Mineral Point Road.
