While Dr Pepper and barbecue is a common combo, Johnsonville has introduced a new combination to the world: Dr Pepper and sausages.
Available in cooked and uncooked varieties, Sheboygan-based Johnsonville has made sausage inspired by the 23 flavors that make up a Dr Pepper soda.
The sausages have been available since March 1, and Johnsonville said the flavor is salty and sweet, or “swalty.”
“Johnsonville and Dr Pepper are built for hangouts, and our data continues to show people are connecting less,” Jamie Schmelzer, vice president of marketing at Johnsonville, said in a statement. “So, we got together and made something fun, unexpected and maybe delicious? Reaction to the idea of a soda-inspired sausage has been a little polarized, but we hope people hang out, give it a try and let us know what they think, love ‘em or hate ‘em.”
Johnsonville is no stranger to sausage collabs, having teamed with Leinenkugel’s in the past for an Oktoberfest brat and brats infused with the brewery’s Summer Shandy.
