The Glendale-based Johnson Controls has been awarded a high-tech battery contract worth $5.48 million, according to a report in the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel.
The contract was granted by the U.S. Advanced Battery Consortium, a joint technology company of Ford Motor Co., General Motors, and Chrysler. According to the report, the U.S. Department of Energy will help fund the contract, which includes a 50% cost share by Johnson Controls.
It calls for Johnson Controls to complete development work to reduce the size and cost of lithium-ion batteries that supply power to plug-in electric cars like the Chevy Volt.
