One lane in each direction of John Nolen Drive has been temporarily restricted due to ongoing construction activities, according to a city of Madison press release. The lane reduction, which spans from Broom Street to Blair/Williamson streets, commenced early Monday, Nov. 13 and is anticipated to persist until Dec. 22.
The city is actively engaged in a project involving the replacement of stormwater piping, electrical work for fire alarms in the Monona Terrace tunnel ceiling, and concrete repairs to the parking structure. The lane reduction is a result of the work being conducted on the underside of the tunnel above the traffic lanes, coupled with the necessary traffic control measures. Consequently, daily peak-hour traffic congestion is expected.
The city emphasized that drivers should consider using alternate routes or factor in extra travel time due to the ongoing construction. This construction initiative was strategically timed to commence after the recent reopening of South Broom Street and West Wilson Street, both of which fully reopened to traffic over the past weekend.
