Jobless rate falls again

According to preliminary reports from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, Madison’s jobless rate fell from 3.6% in August to 3.4% in September.

Dane County’s rate fell from 3.5% to 3.3%, the third lowest in the state.

Seventy of the state’s 72 counties saw decreases. St. Croix County recorded the lowest rate, at 3.1%, with Menominee County showing the highest unemployment, at 10.5%.

Statewide, the preliminary unemployment rate in September was 5.5%, down from 5.7% in August. Nationally, September’s rate of 5.9% was down from 6.1% in August.
