U.S. applications for unemployment benefits fell last week, according to the Associated Press, and layoffs remain low despite worries about how tariffs may impact the American economy.
Jobless claims for the week ending June 28 fell by 4,000 to 233,000, the Labor Department reported Thursday. That’s less than the 241,000 forecast by analysts.
The four-week average of claims, which evens out some of the week-to-week volatility, dropped by 3,750 to 241,500. The total number of Americans collecting unemployment benefits the week of June 21 remained steady at 1.97 million.
