Neighbors and customers of the Jenifer Street Market launched a fundraising campaign this week to support owner Steve McKenzie’s attempts to save the local market, which is on land owned by Schoep’s Ice Cream, now in receivership.

In another show of support, resident Trevor Fink formed a SASY Business Development Association designed to support McKenzie and other businesses in the Atwood Avenue area. In response, the SASY (Schenk-Atwood-Starkweather-Yahara) Neighborhood Association Board called an emergency meeting to discuss whether or not to publicly support the BDA, according to a Capital Times article.

The fate of the 10,000-square-foot store has become a concern since Schoep’s Ice Cream filed for receivership.

Interested buyers will be able to make bids on the property during a Dec. 16 auction at the Madison Concourse Hotel.

McKenzie notes that Jennifer Street Market still has a lease that will have to be honored by whomever buys the building.
