Wisconsin Supreme Court Justice-elect Janet Protasiewicz will be sworn in at the State Capitol today, Wisconsin Public Radio reports. In April, Protasiewicz was elected to a 10-year term in a decisive win.
The state Supreme Court will now have a liberal majority for the first time since 2008 as it continues to address high-profile issues including challenges to Wisconsin’s pre-Civil War abortion ban and its Republican-drawn legislative maps.
The court may also take up voting access issues in advance of the 2024 presidential race. Wisconsin will again be a swing state.
Protasiewicz is a former Milwaukee County Circuit Court judge and fills the Supreme Court seat previously held by Patience Roggensack, a conservative and former chief justice.
