IVF could be free if Wisconsin bill passes

A group of Democrats introduced a bill to the Wisconsin Legislature that would require health insurance plans to cover fertility treatments, including IVF, the Cap Times reports.

In vitro fertilization, more commonly called IVF, is one method for those facing pregnancy challenges. At the lower end, it costs about $12,000.

State Sen. Kelda Roys of Madison introduced the bill, which has the support of over 30 Democrats in the Legislature. It is also backed by the Wisconsin Building Families Alliance.

More than 10% of women in the United States struggle with infertility, according to the federal Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. In Wisconsin, infertility affects more than 172,000 women.
