Following federal aid sanctions, ITT Technical Institute closed suddenly, leaving 8,000 employees out of work. ITT operated three Wisconsin campuses in Madison, Greenfield, and Green Bay.

Reportedly, the U.S. Department of Education believed the college was not in compliance with accreditation criteria and either misled students or failed to deliver on results promised.

ITT Tech had 130 campuses in 38 states and enrolled close to 40,000 students. In recent years, Madison’s enrollment had dwindled from 313 in 2009 to 141 in 2014.
