After laying off staff and pausing print production earlier this spring, the Isthmus news publication will be shifting to a nonprofit news model, according to a story from the Wisconsin State Journal.

The publication previously had focused on coverage of Madison arts, culture, and food and drink reviews. Because of performance cancellations and restaurant shutdowns, Isthmus halted publishing in March for an undetermined amount of time. The new, nonprofit organization will make the paper eligible for financial support such as foundation grants and tax-deductible contributions from readers and businesses.
