The Greater Madison Convention & Visitors Bureau and the Madison Area Sports Commission announced that the contract for the Ironman triathlon competition has been extended through 2021.

Last year, a survey of Ironman athletes rated Madison as offering the Best Ironman Host City Experience, according to a release.

The 2017 competition attracted 2,700 athletes and approximately 25,000 spectators, and pumped over $4 million into the local economy. This year’s event is scheduled for Sept. 9.
