Madison’s pre-clinical stage biotech firm InvivoSciences is planning for a potential FDA application for a heart failure drug and companion diagnostic tool, according to WisBusiness. Company leaders will meet with FDA officials to get feedback ahead of submission.
Ayla Annac, the startup’s president and CEO, says the newest development from the company works to address an unmet need for drugs that effectively treat patients for a specific form of heart failures using precision medicine. InvivoSciences’ approach involves matching disease prevention and treatment to specific patients and populations — a strategy already being successfully applied to cancer treatment.
InvivoSciences’ drug candidate for this purpose was identified using the company’s existing platform for drug development. Annac said meeting with FDA officials will help company leaders decide whether the drug and diagnostic tool should be submitted together or separately.
The startup has already raised around $10 million to support the creation of its drug development platform. The company is seeking strategic partners to support the current heart failure drug program, which will cost between $3 million–$5 million.
