Madison-based Rural Mutual Insurance Co. and its partner CyberScout have teamed up to launch an identity theft public awareness campaign in October, according to a company release. October is National Cybersecurity Awareness Month, and the goal of the campaign is to help Wisconsin residents guard themselves against identity theft, which impacts one in 20 Americans and amounts to losses of $17 billion annually. The campaign features Tim Winslow, a former member of the Milwaukee-based 1980s teen hacker group “The 414s” and a career computer systems engineer and cybersecurity expert.
