Mount Horeb has its first tenant for a repurposed space that the village has deemed its new “innovation center.” Previously the site of a BMO Harris bank branch, the location, at First and Main streets, was purchased by Duluth Trading Co. owner Steve Schlecht, and his employees will occupy all the space, at least initially. The clothing manufacturer’s call and distributions centers will remain in Belleville.

The Mount Horeb Economic Development Corp. and Duluth Trading have applied for a WEDC grant of up to $250,000 to help pay for renovations.

Duluth Trading Co. plans to house about 80 of its 125 employees in the Mount Horeb location until the company outgrows the space. After that, other companies and startups can move into the center.
