Christopher M. Kaphaem, 43, of Middleton, will stand trial on 19 counts of patient abuse for allegedly harming nine infants while under his care at UnityPoint Health-Meriter Hospital.
Kaphaem was suspended from his nursing job at Meriter’s Newborn Intensive Care Unit after reports began coming in of injuries to infants.
In a preliminary trial, Circuit Judge Stephen Ehlke said there was enough evidence to conclude Kaphaem probably committed the crimes, ranging from bruises and broken bones to a skull fracture, according to a Wisconsin State Journalreport.
