Fitchburg welcomed a new Indian-Italian fusion restaurant last week at 2969 Cahill Main, according to the Wisconsin State Journal. Vijay Krishnan and his cousins Akash Venkatraman and Pooja Venkatraman own Zafferano Ristorante — their first Wisconsin restaurant. Krishnan owns a fine-dining Indian restaurant in New Jersey, and the Venkatraman family owns a resort with a hotel and restaurants in India.
The spot offers a menu including burrata with masala chutney, a samosa calzone, champagne risotto with scallops, paneer caprese skewers, saffron lobster bisque, Caesar salad with chicken tikka, lamb lasagna, butter chicken pizza, and more. It occupies the restaurant space in the Wyndham Garden Madison hotel, which had been vacant since the departure five years ago of Tuscany Mediterranean Grill.
The kitchen is open Tuesday–Sunday from 11 a.m.–10 p.m., while the bar is open until midnight.
